Jay Leno: Preliminary Nielsen numbers show that "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," with Sarah Palin as a guest, beat "Late Show with David Letterman," with Mitt Romney on the marquee. The breakdown was 5.8 million viewers for Leno and 3.7 million for Letterman, with ABC's "Nightline" as 3.3 million. Although Romney had the smaller audience, it's hard to see how he didn't have more to gain from the late-night primary than Palin did. Relentlessly characterized as out...

Sarah Palin On Leno Outdraws Mitt Romney On Letterman
If Tuesday night's late night ratings are any indication, Sarah Palin remains a bigger draw than Mitt Romney. In what was seen as a " Late Night GOP War ," David Letterman's "Late Show" booked Romney to go against Palin on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show." In Leno's second night back at NBC's late-night franchise, he and Palin easily outdrew Romney and Letterman. The "Tonight Show" averaged 5.8 million total viewers (1.6 A18-49 rating) compared to Letterman's 3.7 million total viewers (1.0 A18-49...

Watch: Palin And Romney Trade Jokes With Leno And Letterman
Potential 2012 Republican presidential contenders Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin were on competing late-night chat shows last evening -- Romney on CBS-TV's Late Show with David Letterman and Palin on NBC-TV's newly returned The Tonight Show with Jay Leno . Both politicians got in some good lines. Romney reminded Dave that you have to be careful what you say about Palin because "she has a rifle": Palin doesn't shy from the gun talk. She told Jay that her dad still gives her advice about "what kind...

VIDEOS: Sarah Palin on Jay Leno's Tonight Show and Mitt Romney on David Letterman
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made her highly-publicized appearance on The Tonight Show on Jay Leno’s second day back amid ratings indicating Leno was getting a whopping re-sampling from late night viewers. Meanwhile, David Letterman had on former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Leno’s audience received her warmly in the interview and her prepared jokes — and throughout her appearance her political celebrity power (which can count for something in 21st century American...

Palin and Leno: a perfect match
The proverb that the enemy of my enemy is my friend party explains why Sarah Palin stopped by Jay Leno’s Tonight Show on Tuesday night. She and Leno have a common foe in David Letterman and by teaming up they likely delivered a ratings blow to CBS’s late-night host (who feebly counterprogrammed with Mitt Romney). But there was more to Palin’s appearance than this. Her poll numbers, after all, have plummeted to alarming depths. More than 70 percent of all Americans – and...

Late Night Wars: Letterman vs. Leno
Jay Leno made news when he announced that Sarah Palin will be among his high-profile guests when he returns to The Tonight Show next week (aka "The Jaysurrection"). Now David Letterman's lineup for next week pits Mitt Romney against Sarah Palin on Tuesday night -- and the ratings may well provide clues on which probable GOP presidential contender may be most popular. The week's lineup for Letterman's Late Show are: MONDAY, Bill Murray; TUESDAY, Mitt Romney; WEDNESDAY, Jerry Seinfeld and Tom...

Palin v. Romney on late-night talk shows
March 2, 2010 Tags: 2012 presidential race , Iowa caucuses , iowa politics , Mitt Romney , Sarah Palin The late-night Talk Shows have dueling politicians and the question Politico seems to be asking is: Who has better hair, Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney? Palin will appear on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno tonight. Romney will be on “The Late Show” with David Letterman. Who will you watch? I’d lean toward tuning in to Palin and Leno, on the off-chance I’m...

Romney to Letterman: Palin 'has a rifle, you know'
One potential Republican candidate is warning that people should mind their comments around Sarah Palin -- because the former Alaska Governor has a gun. "What about that Sarah Palin. She's not ready to be president, is she?" David Letterman asked former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney Tuesday night. "She's terrific. She really is. She's terrific. She's got energy. She's got energy, passion," Romney said as the crowd moaned. "By the way, you know, be careful what you say about her by the way," Romney...

Romney Warns Letterman
Mitt Romney was on the Late Show with David Letterman last night and brought up the host's controversial comments about Sarah Palin: Letterman: What about that Sarah Palin? She's not ready to be President, is she? Romney: She's terrific. She really is. She's terrific. She's got energy, passion. By the way, be careful what you say about her, by the way. Letterman: [laughing...] I've had my... Romney: She has a rifle, you know.

Romney says Palin qualified to be president, plus late-night jokes from Mitt and Sarah
am Sarah Palin is qualified to be president -- so says fellow Republican Mitt Romney, who has run for president before and is expected to run again. "Yes,'' Romney said to a question of the former Alaska governor's qualifications to serve as president, in an appearance Wednesday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "She's terrific -- she's got energy, passion,'' he said last night on the "Late Show With David Letterman." She's also a...

Mitt Romney warns Letterman about Sarah Palin: 'She has a rifle, you know'
If this is a politician on late-night TV, there must be a new book somewhere. Sure enough, there's Republican Mitt Romney on David Letterman's CBS show talking about his new book, "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness." New books are pretty good signs of candidate-positioning for a possible run in 2012. And, sure enough, the former businessman-governor-Olympics rescuer wisely says he's keeping the door open for a 2012 bid. "He's running," quips...

NBC/Leno Keep Erasing All Trace Of Conan
Print This   |  On his first night back as host of The Tonight Show , Jay Leno said Sarah Palin "has never been on a late night show". Wrong! She was on Conan's Tonight Show on December 11, 2009. Palin will be a guest on Jay's show Tuesday up against Mitt Romney on David Letterman's Late Show . Comments

Late-night GOP ratings war
For his return to “The Tonight Show,” Jay Leno booked a week’s worth of ratings-friendly guests, including Sarah Palin — who appears Tuesday night. David Letterman responded by booking his own political guest for the same night: Mitt Romney. And so the late-night battle for ratings hinges on two GOP stars with one thing in common: Palin and Romney have some of the best hair in politics. But whereas Romney’s standard, well-groomed cut doesn’t seem to change,...

Romney tells Letterman rapper 'broke my hair' during recent spat on Air Canada flight
NEW YORK — Mitt Romney says a recent airplane scuffle with a rap star "broke my hair." The 2008 Republican presidential contender joked about the confrontation Tuesday on the "Late Show with David Letterman." Romney says rapper Sky Blu ignored the instruction "we've all heard 10,000 times" to put his seat back upright, so the former Massachusetts governor "tapped him on the shoulder and reminded him of that direction." Blu is a member of LMFAO and the grandson of Motown founder Berry...

Romney: Palin is qualified
Mitt Romney appeared on Sean Hannity's show last night, David Letterman's, and then this morning -- Morning Joe. If you're pressed for time, Morning Joe is the most interesting, with Mike Barnicle and Mort Zuckerman piping in every now and then, and Joe Scarborough being his usual contrarian self. They also play a game of word association with seriously relaxed rules. George W. Bush = "kept us safe, helped our schools take a major step forward. Did he do everything perfectly? No. But did he...

Letterman to Romney: 'Of course he's running'
David Letterman cut to the chase last night in an interview with Mitt Romney. The former Massachusetts governor appeared on the Late Show to promote his new book, "No Apologies," and Letterman told Romney what basically everyone in Washington is thinking. "So it sounds to me like you're going to run for president again in 2012," he said. Romney objected, inserting the standard answer: "No plans for that at this point. I'll keep the door open." Letterman wasn't having it, turning toward the...

BY SAM SCHECHNER About 6.6 million people watched comedian Jay Leno's return to hosting NBC's "The Tonight Show" Monday evening, topping his closest rival, David Letterman, who drew 3.8 million viewers on CBS, according to early Nielsen Co. data provided by NBC. It was a solid start for ...

In Return Engagement, Leno Soundly Defeats Letterman
Let the Leno-Letterman jousting resume. Jay Leno’s return to “The Tonight Show” Monday was watched by about 6.6 million viewers, according to early Nielsen ratings, up about 25 percent from his average viewership in the first quarter last year. David Letterman’s “Late Show” on CBS was watched by 3.8 million, about average for his program. Among adults 18 to 49, Mr. Leno averaged a 1.6 rating and Mr. Letterman averaged a 1.1. “It’s good to be...

TV lights up over Leno-Letterman II
While Jay Leno and David Letterman duke it out again for late-night supremacy, advertisers and viewers can just sit back and enjoy the show. NBC's decision to return Leno to his "Tonight Show" perch starting tonight, pitting him against Letterman's "Late Show" for a second time, has revived a long-running war with CBS. TV analysts predict the showdown -- the fiercest since Letterman and Leno first went toe to toe in 1993 -- will boost late-night ratings in the near term as the two networks try...

Last Night on Late Night: Sarah Palin Dominates the Airwaves -- Vulture
Talk of Sarah Palin and Tea parties spread across the Talk Shows last night, almost as if her appearance on the Tonight Show couldn't stay confined to one program. As a guest, Palin raised the bar for late-night absurdity by performing a stand-up comedy act and describing the Tea-party movement as "beautiful." "She's terrific," Mitt Romney told David Letterman on his show, and warned the host to be nicer about her, apparently unaware that Letterman is acquainted with her wrath . Tea-party...

Troll Dissection 101: the pro-Horsemen of the GOP Apocalypse Troll
Here’s a new variation of troll dropping we found in the old Troll Filter today. This one’s clearly triggered by how well Sarah Palin did on the Tonight Show last night, blowing David Letterman and Mitt Romney out of the water.
