Returning a favor
When Republican Scott Brown ran for Election to replace the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy in Massachusetts, he had help from veteran Sen. John McCain, one of his first supporters.
Mr. Brown surprised many by winning Sen. Kennedy's old seat in a January Special Election. The victory gave Republicans the 41st vote needed to halt Democratic legislation if necessary. It also signified a GOP triumph and made a statement in a left-leaning state.
The new senator already has made his first foray into...

National ID will be a part of immigration reform
It looks like another hot button issue will be coming to the forefront of American politics this year as the Senate is planning on tackling Immigration. You may recall that President George W. Bush tried to tackle this issue with the Democratic-controlled Congress in 2007. The proposal , sponsored by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), was meet with fierce opposition by conservatives and Republicans and ultimately defeated.
Reform that makes it easier for immigrants to come to...

Entire FOX News Panel Defends John McCain Over Confrontation With NY Times While Ignoring The Underlying Issue Of McCain's Lack Of Candor
Here's a perfect example of Fox News bias: Hannity & Colmes discussed John McCain's confrontation with New York Times reporter Elisabeth Bumiller on Friday, March 7, 2008. But the sole guest was Republican pollster Frank Luntz, offered as usual as simply an expert on "words that work." Luntz and both hosts defended McCain. Meanwhile, the clip of McCain's confrontation, along with the parameters of the discussion, neatly avoided the underlying issue behind Bumiller's questions: that...
Dietary Supplement Makers Up As McCain Withdraws Bill Support
more in Business » NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Shares of nutritional supplement makers climbed Monday as Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz) withdrew his support for legislation to regulate dietary supplements. "It looks like it will be an easier world to be in the dietary supplement business," said Avondale analyst Bret Jordan. "The bill would have significantly tightened regulatory requirements." In February, McCain and Sen. Byron Dorgan (D., N.D.) introduced the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of...
Scott Brown: The Sequel?
It wasn't until mid-December that Scott Brown's campaign team knew for certain they had a chance. An internal poll showed intense interest in the race to fill Ted Kennedy's Senate seat. And the more interested a voter was, the more likely he was to support Scott Brown. The campaign then made the bold decision to cut this ad:
There was worry inside the Brown campaign that the public might react negatively to the outright comparison of Brown to Kennedy. That didn't happen. The ad was electric. It...

Bankers don't need another senator, Obama said. Except in Illinois.
“ Bankers don't need another vote in the United States Senate ," President Obama said as he urged Massachusetts voters to support Attorney General Martha Coakley over Republican Scott Brown. He also railed against "the same fat-cats who are getting rewarded for their failure." But in Illinois, Democrats have nominated a Banker for Obama's old Senate seat. Not only is Alexi Giannoulias's family bank on the verge of failing, but he has a golden parachute made of federal tax refunds: Alexi...
MA 10 Moved From Safe to Democrat Favored
Democratic Cong. Bill Delahunt’s retirement creates another open seat opportunity for Republicans. But even though Scott Brown (R) won Massachusetts’ 10th District by 20 points in his historic statewide win earlier this year, this seat is a long ways away, geographically and politically, from Democratic open seats in the South. Barack Obama won the seat 55%-44% in 2008 and it’s going to be tough for Republicans to re-create the dynamic from the Senate race. Of course...
